The Dubai Equine Hospital was founded in 1993 and has gone from strength to strength since its start up.
Dr. Michael Hauser has been the director of the facility from the
beginning. Dr. Hauser formerly practiced in the United States before
coming to the UAE and he explained the purpose and background of the
Dubai Equine Hospital.
"My assignment here was to establish an infrastructure of veterinary
services for the horse population. We designed and built a hospital
which was customised for the purpose of taking care of the general
horse population and specifically the racing community.
"I was aware of other facilities and the Dubai Equine Hospital was
drawn up in a state-of-the-art way, dedicated to the types of horses we
were going to be looking at. It is rather unique. At the time when it
was built, the hospital was probably bigger than needed but with all
the growth in the horse industry here, it is now working at full
capacity. It has grown in terms of upgrading technology and increasing
the professional staff and there are now 21 vets involved.
"We have in-patients and out-patients and we do a lot of field work and
ambulatory work. We look after polo horses, show horses, racehorses and
endurance horses. Part of the team stays with the Godolphin (racing)
horses wherever they go.
We can do almost anything that needs to be done - it is a whole service
involving the best technology, highly-trained staff and an excellent
facility. The Dubai Equine Hospital would be as good as any in the
world."
Despite the highest standards it is clear that those who work at the Dubai Equine Hospital are not content to stand still.
"The ambition is to keep up with the technology and maintain a cutting
edge profile," Dr. Hauser added. "It is always exciting to see the
horse respond to the different procedures that address the problems
that have been identified with good diagnostic services. We face
constant challenges and that is what it is all about. It makes
everybody better."
