Dubai Feed Mills

The Zabeel Feed Mill in Dubai is a unique operation providing an
invaluable service to trainers, owners and equestrian facilities both
inside and outside the UAE.
Founded in 1986 at the instigation of Sheikh Mohammed, the
mill employs 40 workers and is run under the direction of Dr Ahmed
Billah whose motto is quality, quality and quality. The best raw
materials are sourced from around the world, checked in the mill's
laboratory and combined to the specifications each client. In addition
to the grain shipments, about 25 containers of timothy hay are shipped
in each month from North America.
Zabeel Feed Mill produces 20 main equine feed types to meet
the nutritional needs of a variety of categories of sporting and
breeding horses, including sport horses and racehorses. Godolphin
Racing is the combined racing enterprise of the Maktoum family and is
the largest racehorse ownership entity in the world of thoroughbred
racing. Zabeel Feed Mill supplies Godolphin horses with custom mixed
feed and top quality forage year round, whether the horses are in Dubai
or at their UK base in Newmarket, or anywhere in the world that they
happen to be running.
"This is a non-commercial feed mill," said Dr. Billah. "One of
our main objectives is to provide feed for the Godolphin horses
wherever they are. We also provide feed for overseas and local runners
as well as for other horses here in Dubai.
"It is has become a huge operation. Trainers from around the
world come and tell us what they usually feed their horses and we sit
down and work out what they need here - there is a relationship between
us and each trainer. The feed mill has a good reputation and we pride
ourselves on our feed."
In addition to horse feeds, Zabeel Feed Mill formulates and
serves up feed for all the animals belonging to Dubai's ruling Maktoum
family. They range from rare and exotic birds to breeding and racing
camels. As well, the feed mill supplies a supplementary diet for the
hundreds of spectacular wild flamingos that gather on the Ras Al Khor
lagoon on the edge of the city, some of them residing there for most of
the year.
"We have a very good laboratory where we analyse the raw
materials for quality control reasons, as well as the finished feed. We
do a lot of research and trials. It is a moving project. Quality is so
important and we have a free hand to go anywhere in the world to buy
the best materials which gives us an edge over others. We don't
compromise on quality."
