Rocky as he is affectionately known, has always been a willing worker
and tries hard to please. He has an excellent walk and canter with good
balance and pushes off well. According to his performance test in Emilo
"He has a good take off in jumping. He jumps back well and leaves the
ground quickly. He has good technique of the foreleg and bascules well.
The jump is finished well. Little Rock (Rock n'Roll), is careful and
shows much scope. He gives the rider a good feeling."
He is fully approved for breeding with the Zangersheide
Studbook (1995), the Holsteiner Verband (competed his performance test
in 1994 at Munster-Handorf where he excelled in the jumping section and
approved 1996) and KWPN (1999).
Rocky has competed at the top level in show jumping with great
success including winning the World Championships for 6 years olds at
Lanaken in 1997, and 1998 he was Grand Prix Champion of Rostock (12,500
DM) placed in the Heineken Prijs and the Rabobank Prijs at the CSI-A
Arnhem, 11th in the 7 year old final of the World Breeding
Championships in Lanaken and 7th at the CSI-A in Zuidlaren. In 1999
Rocky was placed in two CSI-A classes in Geesteren.
To the end of 2003 he has 39 foals registered with the KWPN from 41 coverings.
HRH Princess Haya purchased Little Rock from Poncho Romo in the
year 2000, and changed his name to "Rock n'Roll". He competed highly
successfully with Princess Haya 2000-2004. Most notably he was the
horse on which she qualified for the 2002 World Equestrian Games Jerez
on, in Nations Cup, at CSIO Gijon 2001.
He was bred to Lucilla in 2002 and produced a colt foal named "Riverdance."
Status: Retired winter 2005, breeding stallion.
Interestingly, all horses are known to trace back to one of
three founding fathers, the Godolphin Arabian, the Darley Arabian, and
the Byrely Arabian.
HH Sheikh Mohammad named his racing company "Godolphin", and
his breeding empire "Darley" after these famous Arabian sires. Out of
curiosity HRH Princess Haya decided to see how Rock N'Roll was related
to these stallions…
Rocky's sire LANDARIS traces back two generations on his dam
side to a stallion called CORDELABRYERE who was by RANTZAU XX, he
traced back to ECLIPSE through SON IN LAW and TOUCHSTONE, to the
GODOLPHIN ARABIAN.
On Rocky's dam line, there is a big influence of ST SIMON,
leading back to the DARLEY ARABIAN, but Rocky's dam KOLLET also has the
print of the GODOLPHIN ARABIAN through the dam line of LORD CLIFTON,
who was called THE SLAVE, who was by MELBOURNE, who also leads back to
the GODOLPHIN ARABIAN.
Hence the 'Father of the Turf' THE GODOLPHIN ARABIAN has stamped Rocky on both his sire and dam lines.
